How to replace tie rod ends on a 1996 Ford Windstar? I need to replace the tie rod ends on my 1996 Ford Windstar GL mini-van. Is there anyone who might know of a online site that might give me the step by step procedure of how to do this project. I'm aware of the fact that the van will have to get an alignment afterwards, but I still need to know how to do the tie rod ends.
Tie rod ends. How do I seal the rubber cap on and what do I use to grease them? Im just about ready to replace my outer tie rod ends on my 93 Asuna sunfire (rebranded isuzu impulse) and just want to get it right. The tie rod ends came seperated from the rubber caps and look like they just slip on. I have a high temp lithium grease loaded into my grease gun, and was wondering if it would be ok to use in the tie rod ends.
How can I differentiate between a problem with the inner tie rod ends on my Toyota Camry versus the outers ? When I drive, there is a noticable shimmy in the steering wheel and when I am going around a curve in the road to the left, it feels more like a knocking in the steering wheel that I can feel through the drivers side floor boards as well. I have tried to wiggle the wheels sideways when the car is parked or rock them in and out and there is definitely some movement on the passenger side front. The drivers side does not move. I am guessing that the outer tie rod end is bad on the passenger side, but I don't want to dive into replacing the outer ends if that is the only problem. Is there a way to determine whether it is the outer versus inner ends and how do you tell where the problem lies? Thanks.
Should tie rod ends be replaced as a pair? I need to replace the right front outer tie rod end. Since I need to spend the money on an alignment afterwards, should I just replace both tie rod ends, even if the left one isn't that bad? At least that will save me from another alignment someday in the future when that one finally goes bad, too.
How easy are tie rod ends to install? My car need tie rod ends badly, I can't even get on the freeway with the amount of wiggle it gives me in the steering wheel. How much generally are these to replace at a shop? It's a 1984 Honda CRX

I took my car to Firestone to get 4 new tires, 2 new tie rod ends (L & R) and an Alignment? I am the original owner of this Corolla and it has always had a silent and very gentle ride to it so that one cannot even tell that the ignition is on. After having the new tires, 2 Tie Rod Ends (L & R) and the Alignment it now has some vibration in the steering, you can feel it in Driver's seat & floorboard and it has a low humming sound. What may be causing this? If it matters, the tires were also all balanced.
I need struts and tie rod ends on my car. Does it matter what order I replace them in? We can replace the struts ourselves...we've done it on other cars before. But we also need the tie rod ends and ball joints replaced, and I don't know that we can do those at home. So should I take the car in and get the tie rod ends and ball joints replaced BEFORE I do the struts, or do the struts at home before I take it in for the other stuff?
How can you tell if Tie Rod Ends are bad? I got a steering rack from the junk yard. It looks fine, except the tie rod end covers are destroyed. The joint feels alright to me. Is it safe to just grease it up and put on another boot?
How screwed am I with a pair of slightly bent tie-rod ends? Accidental off-road excursion involving jumping a curb quite hard has my alignment off a good bit but the wheel is only off a wee bit. Provided I can straighten the alignment with it as it is, how badly am I in danger of the tie rod end itself breaking? They're both in a bit of an S-shape...

Do needle grease injectors properly lubricate ball joints, tie rod ends, bearings? Some folks say that using them to go through or under the rubber cover on a tie rod end doesn't get grease into the joint itself. Sound reasonable? Many ball joints these days don't seem to be greasable with them at all -- am I missing something? Can the needles lubricate sealed bearings, and if so, what's the technique? Thanks much

Special Flats for Tie-rod Ends? I'm needing to replace the power steering (rack & pinion) boot in our 2003 Ford Focus. The car's Chilton book explains how to do it, but there's one part that's confusing me. In the section talking about how to remove the tie-rod ends, it says: "Loosen the locknut on the tie-rod by a quarter-turn. Hold the tie-rod end stationary with another wrench engaged with the special flats while loosening the locknut." It must just be the grammar of it, but what's it saying - what's a special flat? Is it something that I need to hold in place using a (normal) wrench, or is it a special type of wrench?

What exactly is the steering gear of a car???? And are the tie rod ends associated with it??? 2007 Chrysler 300 I'd like to know because someone told me my tie rod ends were bad when they jacked my car up and could wiggle my front two tires easily. So I took it to chrysler and they said i needed sway bar links and my steering gear was bad but they did not mention the tie rod ends. So im wondering If the tie rod ends are a part of the steering gear. Thanks..... I know nothing about cars. Thanks everyone!! The car is under extended warranty and this was a Chrysler dealership that told me these facts.I bought the car used and it had 38k miles on it which is kind of a lot for its year. Also my car had been swaying (feeling like it was about to fishtail) at speeds over 70 which is why i had it looked at. I just thought I'd ad a few details. :)
How can I tell if my Honda Accord REALLY need ball joints + tie rod ends? My regular garage told me 50 miles ago that my '93 Honda Accord is fine. Now, the inspection station says it needs tie rod ends and ball joints - as well as other things that I KNOW it doesn't. ("A whole new exhaust system," for instance, even though they can't show me a single problem and the emissions test was good; "lots of work on the lights," all of which work; "the front bumper is falling off" - er, no, though one bolt was loose ... so I tightened it. ) But the steering has been fine, the brakes have been fine, and the car -- unlike the garage -- hasn't been making any funny noises. So, how do I check the tie rod ends and ball joints? How much would they cost if there realy is a problem? Thanks!
