IS it necessary to use a fly rod to fish in the Smoky Mountain streams ?

1. no it would be fine just different bait
2. In some sections they will be classified as "flies only". Although a casting rod with a bobber can be used to present the fly, most fish are spooked by it.
3. Different streams have different regulations. Best bet is to consult the fishing handbook you get with your license to which streams have special regs. Another bet would be to look online at the state in question fishing regulations.
