What is the difference between a spinning rod and a casting rod??

Public Comments

  1. I am assuming ur asking the difference between reels, not rods. a spinning reel is much easier to use...it has a bar that flips over the top to help reel in and guide the line..these are very easy to cast a casting, or bait casting reel, sits more sideways on the rod, in order to cast u got to push in a lever or button and hold the bail of line with your thumb..then castt while releasing your thumb at the right time...then when your lure/bait reaches where u want it u stop the cast with your thumb again..the problem here is the line frequently gets tangled or what we call a birds nest and can be very frustrating to a new angler...i would suggest a spinning reel at first then once u get good at casting experiment with baitcasters...i still prefer my spinning rods though.
  2. your spinning with one and casting far distance with the other
  3. in general, just the handle, or butt stock where the reel is mounted, due to the various shapes encountered in the market, some reels are almost impossible to adapt comfortably to the wrong shape, as for the rest of the rod from the handle to the tip, they are generally interchangeable, the main difference encountered is the type of material composition and the overall length of the pole itself, the eyelets are usually the same, regardless of manufacturer
  4. Spinning rods are designed to have progressively larger eyes on the guides as you go from tip to handle. The larger "stripper" guide (the one closest to the handle/grip) is necessary because spinning reels release line in a round coil. This coil, if restricted, will come off the spool slower, causing shorter casting ability. The larger eye on that first guide lets line off naturally at first, and then the progressively smaller guides tighten the coil gradually allowing the line to flow from the tip guide smoothly and uncoiled. Casting rods have almost no progression in guide eye size. The reason being that line from a casting reel comes off straight, not coiled. Therefore, there is no restriction caused by the line, and the line will flow straight from the reel through the tip guide. Casting reels mount on the "top" of the casting rod. Spinning reels mount on the "bottom" of the spinning reel. Both types can be made with the same materials (fiberglass, graphite, composite...etc), handle composition (EVA foam, cork, graphite), and guide materials (ceramic, steel, titainium...etc).
  5. spinning rods have an open reel meaning that you can see all the line on the spool and they cast alot different because all you do is flip over this lever that releases the line. While a casting reel has a cover for the spool of line and you cast it by pressing a button then throwing it out . Personally i like the spinning reels alot more.
