- The Ugly Stick. Rod & Reel combos start at $29.
- I prefer Quantum over all that I've used, i have a medium light action, reel with a 7 foot rod, it have great casting distance, it's by far one of the best poles I've ever used. So stick with quantum and i promise you'll be satisfied with these, and their priced very reasonably. ```good catchin```
- I like the bass pro shops pro qualifier reels. The reel has the nice wide spool and the rods aren't too bad either. Get one with either the model 1000 or 2000 reels. I have several of these reels and can't find a bad thing to say about them. The reels are about $49.00 and the rods are right in that ball park. I would buy this combo before any one of the others I have read so far. Good luck.
- If I were you, I'd be looking at either one of these three.... Quantum Kinetic PTi/Tourney Trail (either the KT20 or KT30) http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20174-cat20287&rid=&indexId=cat20287&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=2&parentType=index&parentId=cat20287&id=0036215 or Shimano Symetre/Fish Eagle II (2500 size) http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20174-cat20287&rid=&indexId=cat20287&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=4&parentType=index&parentId=cat20287&id=0053502 or Shimano Symetre/XML (2500 size) http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20174-cat20287&rid=&indexId=cat20287&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=4&parentType=index&parentId=cat20287&id=0053672 I would shell out the additional 50 bucks for the Symetre/XML combo (the third one). It's better than the others by qutie a bit.
- no best brand. Have a look around in your local shops and ask someone you know who knows their fishing to go with you so they can point out the better quality ones.
