Can anyone recommend a good fishing rod for a beginning fisherman?
An all purpose rod would be preferred; surf, pier and freshwater fishing are all possibilities. All input welcome.

- here comes twelve different recommendations
- be kinda hard to put them 3 together in 1
- ugly stick
- go to any good tackle shop and they will give you expert advice and show you a selection of rods to suit your purpose and pocket.ok?tight lines
- looks like at least three different ones right there. you're going to want a fairly long one for surf, a shorter one with some backbone for raising your fish on a pier, and something considerably lighter for freshwater which will open up a whole 'nother can of worms. trout? bass? carp? musky? perch???
- 9ft uglystik...mh duty...light on the wallet and better then most 200 dollor poles....
- i prefer anything by shakespeare, especially ugly sticks.
- a pinnacle are pretty good rods and reels for freshwater and saltwater. i bought one new for 30$ at a flea market . and when i looked on the internet, it was worth 90$ new. so look for some good stuff at flea markets. you get a better buy
- Try going with a 7 foot ugly stik spinning rod from walmart. They cost just under $30 and are great multi-use rods that are sensitive enough to catch small fish and strong enough to handle large fish. Buy a medium sized spinning reel and spool it up with 12lb line and you are good to go. Good luck! BTW, No matter what you do, don't get push button rods.
- For i beginner i would think a push-button rod.
