  1. Buy an appropriate weight line of the appropriate length. Run it through the rod guides. Snap the bail back on the reel. Tie the line around the spool using a secure knot. Start reeling the line in
  2. Basically what jonyraven said. To attach the line, open the bail, create an "arbor knot". this is a slip knot with an overhand knot in the tag end. Place the loop around the spool, pull tight and clip the tag end. Close the bail and crank the handle to fill the spool with line.
  3. The Penn SV4000 Silverado Spin Reel has 5BB and holds 200 yards of 10Lb test mono line. Balances well on a 6 to 7 foot spinning rod. Putting line on a spinning reel is a simple process but there are a couple of things you must pay particular attention to,1) prevent line twist while winding the line on the reel, and 2) keep the line under tension while winding it on the reel.spool. Without going into what causes line twist I will tell you how to prevent it. A) Mount the reel to your rod. If you haven't a rod, tape the reel to something that can act as a handle while you install the line. B) Tie the end of the line to the reel spool you can remove the spool from the reel to do this or leave it on. You must make sure that the bail is open while tying the line to the spool or else it won't retrieve the line. C) Drop the spool of line into a bucket of water and proceed to wind it on to your reel spool. The spool of line being in the water is free to twist and turn and this prevents twist from in the line as it winds on your reel spool. D) Keeping it under tension with your thumb and forefinger, wind on enough line to reach a level about 1/8 of an inch from the edge of your reel spool lip, Best alternative method: Take the reel to a store that sells fishing gear (Warmart, Sports Authority, Bob's Sporting goods) and have them wind the line on for you with their mechanized equipment. It's pretty cheap and you're sure that it's done right.
