What is the best reel to use on a st. croix premier surf fishing spinning rod?

  1. If you want crap then buy anything that's less than $50 because there is absolutely NO surf spinning reel that's going to survive in the salt that's less then $50. If you want an "ok" reel - Daiwa Emcast Sport, Shimano Speheros FA or FB, Okuma Axeon, Okuma Oryx, TICA Cybernetic, TICA Abyss Decent to Good - TICA Scrambler ST, Daiwa Emblem, Quantum Boca PT, Okuma Cedros (the CRASIEST DRAG EVER - 90lbs....if you don't believe me, go check for yourself...I did - insane), Fladen Maximus Good to Great - Quantum Cabo, Daiwa Saltiga, PENN Spinfisher (SSgraphite/SSmetal), Daiwa BG series, Fin Nor Offshore, Daiwa Basia Great to Amazing - Daiwa Saltiga Surf/Game, Daiwa T-Surf Cast'izm, Daiwa Tournament ISO, Shimano Super Aero Amazing to WTF - VanStaal, Accurate TwinSpin, Daiwa Saltiga Z/Dogfight
  2. a van stall 250. yes its expensive, but there is no other reel that will take the abuse of surf fishing and it keeps working
  3. To each his own I guess. I use Penn Spinfishers religiously. Both my 12 and 11 foot surf rods have an 850 and 950 Penn. My 8ft has a 750. I love them and thats what I use. I have actually taken them apart to clean and have taken out spoonfuls of sand and you would never know by the performance. They have the best drag in the planet and priced somewhat reasonable from $139 to $159. Later.
