How do I determine what weight line to use on my fly rod? It's St. Croix fly rod marked 9000 SF 8' 6".

1. go to stcroixrods.com and find out the details there.
2. On the rod blank next to the grip there should be a # followed by a number. That is the line weight.
3. That is an old, old rod - fiberglass, isn't it? I don't remember if the 9000 indicated it was a 9-weight rod, or if the 9000 is a product line with different line weights.
