How do I hang a clothes rod from the ceiling?
I'm moving into a room without a closet and I need to create my own. I would like to suspend a rod from the ceiling by two wires, but I'm not sure how to go about it. What supports to use, how to make sure it supports enough weight, etc. Any ideas? An armoire, storage rack or anything else is NOT an option. I've seen it done, that's what I'm doing, please don't waste your time and mine with other suggestions.

- You can do that. A better suggestion would be to buy a portable closet!
- WELL I WOULD NOT SAY A SEALING CAUSE IF URE CELING IS WEAK IT WILL SLOWLY BUT SURLY BREAK IT DOWN TRY DOING IT ON THE WALL OR IF U REALLY WANT TO DO IT ON THE CELING PUT SALOTAPE ON THE 2 WIRES TO MAKE SURE FOR GOOD IT HOLDS IT
- I'd support it from the floor. If you want to make your own, make two trestles with a center rail between them and put the closet rod across the top. If you want bare-bones, just use some 2x4 and bolts. ( make two inverted "T" shapes with a rod between them at both top and bottom. For a pre-made solution, look for an old coat rack. Or consider an armoire with a hanging rod.
- I would make an L shaped rod with a 6' piece of 3/4" galvanized pipe (horizontal), a 3/4" elbow, a 24" or 30", 3/4" pipe (vertical), and put a flange adapter at each end. One screws to a wall stud, and the other end to a piece of strapping in the ceiling. They sell the parts needed at any Lowes/Home Depot. Below are Graingers links for you. 1) http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/5P968 2) http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/5P799 (the pipe links wouldn't come up) You must hit wood to support the weight, and use 2" #12 philips or hex head screws. Good Luck PS. If you don't want one end to attach to a wall, use two elbows, and two vertical pieces.
- not sure the design you want...try buying chrome legs for under a breakfast bar...they are readily available and come with brackets to attach to ceiling.make sure you get brackets that have a locking nut otherwise your tubing will fall out.screw brackets to ceiling(make sure you fix solid borrow a stud detector)push in tubes and tighten nuts.screw hanging rails across them...this will strengthen it too...
