What kind of spinning rod do you recommend?
I live in mid Michigan and I like to fish anything from walleye, bass, pike, to catfish, and salmon but I am debating whether to get a medium rod or medium heavy. It's either between St.Croix, Berkley or Gander Mtn.

- Use the money you planned to spend on the St. Croix and get yourself 3 or 4 different rods.
- St croix makes a great rod. I perfer a medium for the most part. Fighting the fish is half the fun. Get a good reel and have the drag set properly. Good luck.
- There is a huge price difference between St. Croix and Berkley, I'm not familiar with Gander Mtn. If you can afford a St. Croix then use the money to get a couple of Falcon Lowrider XG rods.
- I would go with the medium heavy rod . Pike are bigger fish and sometimes you need a heavier action rod for catfish and bass in cover. As far as the brand whatever you can afford will work great.
- I agree with Ken. Big Pike, Catfish and Salmon require a heavier action rod than Bass & Walleye. The Gander Mt nearest me currently has a sale on Berkley Series 1 rods (regularly $79 for $49). I'd get 2-3 different action rods in that Berkley series rather than 1 St. Croix. Another option? Cabelas has a great rod clearance going on right now. Check it out- http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates//index/index-display.jsp?id=cat21428&cmCat=cat21406_feat In any regard purchase AT LEAST 2 different rods. If you try to get 1 for all those species of fish you will be unhappy with the "compromise" one way or another. Hope this helps ya? Good luck!
- As said, you aren't going to find a rod exactly like that. There isn't a rod that's the "Best of both worlds." I would have a medium action for walleye, and bass and medium-heavy for pike, catfish and salmon. You could just get three or four Berkley rods to that one St. Croix. (You can't be too reliable on one rod all the time, you have to have an assortment for the situation you are covering.) So, get some Berkley Lightning rods, they are pretty good for the money, and you should be satisfied. Hope i helped ya out.
