Spinning rod set up for pacific steelhead?
egg sacs, spinners and such

- We have a good run of steelhead here in Wisconsin every year. They come in out of Lake Michigan. I haven't fished for them in a while, but I have a 10 foot medium to medium/heavy spinning rod/reel setup with 14lb mono line that works well. It allows for good control of the bait I'm using, and the extra length also helps in fighting the fish. I never threw spinners with it though, just drifted egg sacks. I would think you could cast spinners with it, but it would depend on how many trees line the river you are fishing on. A 10 foot rod can be a bit cumbersome. Otherwise, you could just go with a little bit shorter rod, say 7 or 8 feet.
- 7-8-or 9' drift rod (river/bank driftin') either spinnin' or baitcastin' (level-wind/baitcaster reel rig is all I ever use), spawn sacs aka roe bags aka berry balls aka "egg sacs" are a' BIG plus, Spinners ~ Blue Fox, Spoons ~ Lil' Cleo's, Lures ~ "Hot Shot" ,"Wiggle Wart", "Tadpoly", "Kwikfish" (Steelhead and Salmon), Power Bait Floating Steelhead Worm (color preference be Clearwater Pink), jigs annnnd of course we cannot leave out de' good ol reliable NIGHTCRAWLER;)...
