Advise for my new spinning rod/reel purchase?
I fish a good bit, right now i have a light rod and reel and a medium rod and reel. i fish mainly for bass, but love to catch bream, bluegill and crappie. I have always used the cheap stuff, 8 dollar pole, 15 dollar reel. I saved up a little bit and i was wondering if buying a more expensive rod/reel combo would be worth it, if so what kind?

- if your pole is doing good then stick with it , i would buy lures
- YES! the cheep rods don't have a lot of sensitivity. the easy way to check if your rod has some is you hold the rod tip to somebodys throat lightly and hold the rod as you normally would fish with it and have them talk in a normal voice. the more you can feel the vibrations the more sensitive the rod. phlugar and Abeu garcia have some nice combos for under 100.00. check www.bassproshops.com and check there clearance selection first. Always read the reviews they will tell you allot about the items. in bass and crappie fishing sensitivity counts for allot. you won't believe how many bites you are missing. i would recommend a bait caster once you learn to use it you will only use a spinning reel for drop shots or finesse fishing. if you decide to buy one be patient they are tricky and frustrating at first but they are way better for bass fishing. good luck and remember to take a kid fishing. knowledge is our only hope
- hey,yes it could pay off to buy a new one if you have the money. if your lookin for a new rod i would go without a doubt the shimano sahara, berkley dropshot, phfuger trion or a cheaper one would be the shimano SSS rod. All of these rods have great sensativity but out of them all i would go with the berkley dropshot. A good reel you could get is a abu garcia cardinal. there are lots of difrferent ones but all them are fantastic ongoing reels.my dad had one and it lasted him 14 years without jamming up. another good one is the shimano siena wich is a bit cheaper but is still a great reel. But dont forget that fishing line also plays a big part in the action and sensativiy. try to get fireling as it had showed its worth to me. and it wouldnt pay off just askin somone that works in the fishin shop as most have heaps of knmowledge and local knowledge. have a great time fishing . hope the answer helps.
- Yea, those cheap rods and reels suck. Save up for at least a $50 combo. For a spinning combo, i would get a 6'6 medium-action Ugly Stik combo. It isn't the best but it will work. But i advise you to save up a lot of cash, so you can get a GREAT combo. Happy fishing.
- Shakespere Ugly Stick I have had mine for 14 years. Good Luck!
- Ugly sticks are worth every penny, don't know about a spinning reel I always used a Zebco 33
