- basicly baitcaster is for bass exlcusivly, not always true, but most the time. Spin cast i believe is a closed face real were u click a button to cast. This is good for brim and castfish if u have a bigger real. Lastly if i remember right spinning is an open face real. it is good for anything depending on size bigger for castfish and medium and small for brim and bass.
- Spin casting with an open faced spinning reel is probably the easiest and most versatile method to use for the largest variety of fish. You can cast and retrieve lures and baits, slip-bobber fish, troll, and jig, all with the same rod and reel. I caugh 2 smallmouths and a trout yesterday using slip-bobber and spin casting methods. My favorite fishes to catch and eat are Yellow Perch and Walleyes.
- Baitcasting is NOT exclusively for bass fishing. Larger game fish like sailfish are exclusively caught with baitcasting equipment. They make crappie sized baitcasting reels, too. You can use them for everything! Very hard to cast at first. Not good for the beginner. Backlash is a big problem. Doesn't cast light lures or line very well. Spincasting reels are mostly for beginners. There's kinds for bluegill, and some that will handle larger game like carp and catfish. Easy to cast. Casts light lures better than baitcasting but, not as good as spinning. Spinning reels are for all kinds of things. Large saltwater fish are taken with them. I use 'em for about everything. Casting is somewhat easy for the beginner, they cast a mile, and cast light lures! Happy fishing.
- I can cast all three of them, but it takes a big weight to make my baitcaster cast. I have to tie on a huge stick when practicing casting with it, or a get a bunch of line gobbled up on my reel. It gets so bad i have to take the line out, and put new line in. I will only use it when i don't have to cast (and i haven't fished with it yet). On the other hand i like open face reels (spinning reels) and spincast reels. I use open faces and spincasts exclusively. If you're just learning, get a spincasting rod. They're not too costly, either.
- A' spincast/closed face combo would be the best bet especially with ya' just startin' out, plus their generally le$$ expensive than other set-ups. Baitcasters/level-winds can be a' bit more complicated when it comes ta' castin' them, along with the various adjustments, (drag, brake settins', etc.) and most importantly the use of ones thumb to control the line spool. Whereas with the spincast it's just simply the pushin' in of the button and then releasing it to cast. Hope I've helped a' bit;)... < * ( {{ > < Below is a' good link that I've referred others to with great results, so you may just want to go through it.
