Alternative ways for making a planing platform for a bamboo fly rod...?

Looking for alternative ways to make a planing platform. Are there any other methods of making a hexagonal fly rod without using a planing platform?

1. l would just check with the various builders of bamboo rods. there are a number of great ones here in the U.S. l'm sure they will be happy to talk to you.
2. The best (cost effective) choice would be to just buy a blank. Second best would be to strip an old rod down to the blank. I don't know what you mean by alternatives. The common method is to mill the form out of aluminum bar stock. The cheaper, less precise method is to cut the form out of a hardwood (like maple) on a table saw.
