Is there a way I can take apart my 2 piece fishing rod without taking my float off?

I lose tension on the line and create a rats nest. The float and weight are a bit of a pain to take off and I am planning on going hiking and would like to attach the rod to the side of my pack. Is there a trick to taking the rod apart without taking off all my handiwork?

  1. Get a piece of card from the side of a cardboard box about 4 inches x 6 inches fold this down the middle so it is 6 x 2 ,open it back up and stick your hook in the end of the card then wind your line around the card until you get to your float move your float up or down so it sits inside the card, now close the card over your float and secure with a couple of elastic bands. secure this to your rod and secure your rod sections together with elastic bands or velcro, then tighten your line. If your rod is telescopic follow all the steps but just co lapse the rod and secure the card to the rod and secure with bands and tighten your line.
  2. Sure, I do it all the time. Find a little piece of cork and put your hook into it and then play out about 3 feet of line, take your pole apart, put the pieces together and then wrap the line around both pieces to hold them together and then put a rubber band around the whole thing. I have been doing it that way for many years.
  3. Goop that is a very good idea I will have to try that some time
  4. The easiest way that I can think of is just letting some line out, not too much. and take it apart. As for attaching it to the side, you already have some good ideas on here, but try sliding the cork down the line to the weight, and put the hook on the hook holder or in your rod handle.
  5. just pull apart and secure it with velcro or tape
  6. Yes they now have slotted floats that can be removed in a second. take it off and put it on the hook or in your pack..
  7. Can you just learn to tie a knot?
