What should be a proper strength of the of the line and rod when catching fish?
How many pounds should the line and rod be able to take to catch the kinda fish that you would find in like those neighborhood lakes? Catfish mainly.

- A 10 lb line should be good, chances are very slim you'd catch anythign big in a lake like that...
- I would use 6-10
- about a six foot rod like an ugly stick and about 10 pound test line. I would get monofiliment line it very strong and very clear. Makes it harder for the fish to see.
- Standard rig for pond/lake Catfish would be 10lb test line with matching rod and reel that will work with this kind of weight. A more traditional setup would be 6lb line with matching rod and reel. That would give you more options like going after panfish and bass. Plus I wouldn't think that you'd fine Catfish larger than the 4 to 5 lb range in a neighborhood lake.
- lynn and bjbj are both right on no need for large out rigs here, catchem on light weight out-fits and have fun at your catch. tight lines ...
- for the rod and line should be a 5000000 lb test
