How do I remove tack welds from a metal rod?

My car driver's seat is automatic and has a metal assembly that lifts the car up-and-down or moves it back-and-forward. There are two metal rods underneath, and the front one somehow snapped. It looks like I can replace the rod; however, it is held in place by about 4-6 tack welds. Is there a way to manually remove the tack welds so that I do not have to completely removed the assembly from my seat? Also, what kind of tool would I need to remove the tack welds?

  1. Small grinder, like a Dremel, should do for this.
  2. Two words: Angle grinder. A dremel tool will work as well; it'll just take a little longer, angle grinders have more power. You can get a cheap angle grinder at a pawn shop, getting a used one is fine, unless you plan on using it a lot. You could also get one from a rental place. Note: Be sure to wear safety glass and hearing protection, such as earplugs.
