I need a pyrex glass rod for a glass crafter friend of a friend I have looked and am having a hard time finding what he needs. I need it to be 2 inchers in diameter and ithas to be made of pyrex to make what I am wanting him to make for me. Anyone know a site that would carry this type of rod all I can find is for bead making?

- Hey there, I'm also a glass artist, and I belong to a number of groups online and just asked them which of our suppliers would be able to sell a smaller quantity then the usual large case:-) I've found on one site pyrex rod by the pound, but their largest diameter is 45.7 millimeters, which is just under 2 inches (50.8mm = 2 inches) and the link for that is http://www.frantzartglass.com/Itemdesc.asp?CartId={5634EVERESTA096-A3ED-48FB-9533-B6E6411902F4}&ic=695545&eq=&Tp= Mike Frantz and his wife Pat are the owners, they're both great people and if you have a problem or a question or want something you don't see, don't hesitate to call them up, mike always knows who has stuff if he doens't. As for the diameter, your glass artist friend should be able to take some smaller pyrex rod and do something called encasing to add to the diameter of the rod, especially since you're starting only 5 millimeters below your goal- much much more doable than trying to build up a 2 inch thick rod starting with typical rod, which is 5-10 millimeters! Other info you should know, pyrex is a brand name of glass, known for its strength and durability, but this glass is known by a few other names, and what they have in common is something called COE, which stands for coeffeciency of expansion. COE refers to the rate of which glass expands and contracts when it's heated/cooled, so glasses with the same COE are compatible an can be used with each other. Glass known as Borosillicate, or boro for short, is the same as pyrex glass, as is Northstar glass. All these glasses can be used together and are compatible, because their COE is 33. If you wish to expand your search, you could try looking for Glass Rod, COE 33, Boro, Northstar, Pyrex, etc. I'll post again tomorrow morning with more sources to buy the 2 inch glass rod (gotta give my glass buddies time to look up their suppliers!) and I'll get back to you with a few more sources, best prices, etc. Meanwhile, If you've got other questions, or want to know where to find other stuff, like colored pyrex rod, or tube, etc, let me know. Lots of fun can be had with that stuff!!!
