How can I clean the cork grip, on my fly rod?

I am going fly fishing next week and I want my rod clean!

  1. fine sand paper but it`s very cheap just to replace it.
  2. Pour gasoline on it and use a cloth to rub off the dirt and grime. Be careful not to hit the actual rod with gasoline. Not sure what kind of damage that could do to it. But the cork will be fine.
  3. a vegtable brush or nylon scrub pad and some dishwashing liquid. Hold the grip under lukewarm water and apply some detergent to the brush - all the gunk will come off and you wont ridge your cork. Just be gentle.
  4. well ive heard that microfiber clothes will clean the cork...ive seen in an online store they had a special microfiber cloth that removed dirt
  5. I have used a microfiber towel and used those oxygenated cleaners like powdered oxy clean e.t.c.and it cleaned my cork grip to looking brand new now i wouldn't try to use any sandpaper that is a part of your fishing rod and sandpaper will remove the cork and that isn't what you really want to do. And i have just used a soap like dish soap with a towel but i have found the first suggestion i mentioned to work the best. personally i clean my whole rod including the grip after every use this is what i think take care of your gear and it will take care of you. i only use the oxygenated cleaner when grip gets really dirty and i have never heard of using gasoline to clean a rod grip.
