can i use a spinning rod for coding?

i have a spinning rod and i dont want two get a new rod for coding if i dont have to so if anyone nows that would be great thanks

  2. The main factors are if you are fishing from the shore will you be able to cast out far enough and with enough weight to hold the bottom . If you're fishing from a boat will it be able to handle the weight to get down to the bottom, you'll be looking at a weight of between 8oz to maybe 1lb . I think that answers the question for you.
  3. In the UK I'd say most likely not. It's not an issue of the size or strength of the fish, moreover that they tend to be taken in scenarios that demand terminal gear running to several ounces or more; either to quickly drag down & hold your gear on deep offshore locations or to hoist & control the bait when shore casting. I just think a course rod with a casting weight of <3oz is going to feel very limp & fragile under these circumstances; fine for sea fishing in calm seas with lighter gear that doesn't ned casting all that far, but lacking backbone to comfortably control bigger leads in hefty swells & rips.
