What would be a better fishing rod/reel combo for trout fishing?

I am debating whether to use my light action 5'6 storm fishing reel/rod. Or my R2F Southbend fishing combo which is medium action 6'6. Both have 5.2:1 reels.

  1. I would use the 6'6 rod for longer cast and more power for the fight. good luck.
  2. If you are after brook trout or using small lures go with the light action. Other wise go with the med. action.
  3. I think the 6' 6" would be overkill for trout , but if you are fishing lake trout that might need a little more backbone and length to wear the fish down. In addition for the light action see if you can find a replacement spool for that storm reel and have it prespooled to take with you. 1 spool 2 pound and 1 spool 4 pound then you if the 2 pound proves too thin, you are ready in a heart beat, changed and back fishing in three minutes. Take both rods and have two spools for the southbend as well. Then put 6 pound and 8 pound on each spool for that one.
  4. Both are overkill. Get a matched Fenwick ultralight with 4 pound line and enjoy life.
  5. I'm actually going to go trout fishing tomorrow and I'm bringing along a Zebco 11 with 4 lb. mono, with a 5'6 light action casting rod. I think the Storm combo would be precise. The medium action rod would be way too big. It would be more suited for bass or catfish.
