How can i cast further using a 13ft Caorse fishing rod on commercial fisheries ?

just bought a new rod after many years away from fishing. I am having trouble casting any real distance with it when float fishing. can cast fine with a feeder good direction and distance etc. i know my reel needs a little more line but is the problem or is the rod pants ?

1. the line would be the most obvious answer.
2. What is the make of the rod , what is it intended for . You say you can cast a feeder fine but not a float , if the rod is designed for feeder fishing the rings will be low bridge , where as on a float rod they will be high bridge or stand off rings , this means that when the line is wet it doesn't stick to the rod blank with the lighter float tackle. So it doesn't mean the rod is , as you say pants , it probably means you have brought the wrong rod for what you want to do . If you brought it from a tackle shop go back an speak to the manager and explain , in a nice way that you've been sold the wrong rod for the style of fishing you explained you wanted to do, you might get a result you might not . If you brought it on line or from a non fishing tackle shop , well that's a lesson learnt , about where to shop.
