I am getting into fishing for steelhead and i want to rig up my fly rod will a 6 wt flyrod work for steelhead?
and if it will what type of fly line should i use anyone have any suggestions?

- Kinda depends on where you're fishing and what size steelies you're likely to encounter. There are places where you can find smallish steelhead (6 pounds and under), but if you're routinely going to be into 8-pounders and bigger, a 6-weight rod seems a little undersized. I'm not an expert steelhead angler, but I know that not only are steelhead large, they're notorious for fighting off attempts to catch them with any gear. Hook three, land one -- that's the rule I've always been told. Underpowered gear is the last thing you need while trying to land a fish known for it's tendency to shake hooks and break leaders.
- You would be better off with an 8 weight rod. It will give you better castability with larger or heavier flies. It really helps with the roll cast when the area behind you makes conventional casting impossible. Teeny makes some of the best salmon and steelhead line systems out there.
