  1. u don't need a professional rod for largemouth. get whatever looks the best and the best brand
  2. I would give you my suggestions, but every pole and reel have their pro's and con's. If you want an expert opinion, go to www.cabelas.com and click on the live chat. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need based on where you fish, and what you fish. Sometimes they will also tell you when certain combo's will be discounted. I got a $200 combo for only $60 last year and I only had to wait 2 weeks to let it go on sale. The deals are out there for good quality. :) Good luck!! :)
  3. My friend recently bought a very nice combo, that I personally think would make a great set-up for Bass. It's a Shimano Syncopate 2500 reel paired with a 7' M Field & Stream Sportsman rod filled with 8lb Stren. This would be a very good combo for Bass, maybe spool it with 10lb line since you're fishing for Peacock's and inshore species. And maybe even up it to a MH rod. Problem is that you can't buy either the rod or reel at Bass Pro Shops. Rod is exclusively sold at Dick's Sporting Goods and the reel can be bought at Cabela's but not Bass Pro Shops. If you necessarily need something from Bass Pro Shops, check out the Pflueger Trion spinning combos.
  4. "absolute best" today will change tomorrow when one sale goes off and another goes on as directed by the above answer. Here's what every angler needs to know about choosing a new rod and reel. Since you are the one who is going to have to have it be comfortable in your hands, you can't use a reel that pinches your fingers or the spool doesn't smack your knuckles on every turn of the handle because of the way you hold it. You won't use a too heavy rod and reel for your ability what might be perfect for some weightlifting dude either because his rod would be too heavy for you to be comfortable all day fishing with. So buying anything on line is stupid until you have put one of what you want, in your hands and tested whether or not it works for you or not. Then after having tried all the possibilities there are for bass you will have to decide what baits you will be throwing because rod length and strength is predicated by what baits and presentations in what depth or thick or no cover you fish your preferred method of fishing with your baits while using that rod! (you eventually will need to realize that when fishing with gear designed to catch small fish you will never land a big one. Rods and reels are matched to lure size limitations and line weight classes and if you go fishing why fish for little fish think big and fish big. Anyway, the next thing important enough to mention is, you want the most ball bearings, bells and whistles and whatever that will make the reel more valuable. Lastly, never use the line on any reel that came with it on it, as it's old and no good. But the line you use in the water you fish in the strength you need that will disappear in the water when used. Cool thing about most spinning reels is exchangeable or replacement spools, that way you can have a number of spools pre filled with different lines varying to your fishing needs. After you find "your" own dream rod and reel combo try to find it on line by looking for it. Put the make and model number in your search and add "closeout" to see if some retailer is getting rid of stock and you can buy it at a very reduced price. or even find it on Ebay reduced way below a retailers mark ups.
  5. Here are some suggestions. Please read the reviews for each: Reels You should spend a bit more for your reel than your rod. Cheap reels usually break, lose drag, or seize faster than more expensive reels. The fact that your gonna be using this in saltwater makes it even MORE important to get a quality reel. A. The lowest "grade" you would want to purchase would be IM-6. If the rod doesn't have an IM rating be leery of purchasing it. Do read all the reviews provided.......... Hope this helps ya? Good luck in your search.
