Best way to store a fly rod for day to day use?
I just bought my first fly rod and am wondering about the best way to store it. Hopefully I will be using it every few days. Is it OK for the rod to keep it put together in all four pieces, leaning against the wall? Or should i break it down each time after use and put it back in its soft case? Thank you for any advice.

- I keep my rods each in its respective rod sock and hard tube, lying on its side. I would not lean it against a wall. I'm sure it's a graphite rod and all, and theoretically it should be able to lean against a wall for weeks without taking a bend, but it takes something like 25 seconds to put it away, so, why not do it? It will be out of the way and you'll never have to worry about it getting broken inside a case. These fly rods, they seem to attract freak accidents that snap off the tip or damage an eye. Of all the people I know who have had their rods broken, many of them tell the same tale -- the rod was sitting someplace where you'd never expect it to be in danger, and a few seconds later they're looking at the broken rod shaking their head trying to figure out the odds of what just happened. Transporting, particularly, seems to be hazardous for fly rods. Doors, hatchbacks, tailgates, a carelessly heaved backpack -- takes a half second to ruin your day.
- i have a series of 8 or 9 nails in wall in a nice straight line so if im going back out soon i just hang it on the wall in garage but for winter storage or long term storage they all get dried and cleaned and out away in their hard tubes
