What type of fishing rod should I get?
I'm going fishing for the first time, not sure where to get a rod from, what type of rod to get, or how much to spend. Should i get the cheapest one from wal-mart or is that a bad idea.

- walmart is fine. ive got a few rod/reel combos there. the rod depends on what you are fishing for. i would suggest the shakespeare ugly stick. its the most common fishing rod and very good. you can bend it in a complete circle and it will not break (at your own risk) but that should get you started. good luck fishin : )
- get you a zebco 33 with a uglystick beings its your 1st time
- If you are just starting out, get yourself a Zebco 303, or 33 Classic combo (includes the rod and reel) at WalMart. The reel will be pre-spooled with line. It's easy to cast and has caught more fish than any other reel out there. It will set you back about $25. Get some small snap swivels, too; tie one on your line and you won't have to mess with re-tying lures - you just snap a new lure on. You can even pick up some hooks pre-tied with a monofilament leader if you are going to fish with nightcrawlers or minnows. The salesperson at WalMart will be able to set you up, and it won't cost you much. Simplicity is best. Have fun!
- Wal-mart's fine, but i would not necessarily get the cheapest pole you can get, you should spend any ware from 25$ to 60$ if you buy a pole in the price range bracket, than you are almost always get a pretty good quality pole. A great brand to get is a quantum selects series, from Kevin VanDam or Bill Danc, these poles are always great and a good price, most of them are from 30 $ to 70 $. A good kind of rod is spinning for a beginner, ultra light and light actions are great. ```good catchin```
