How do you fish with the fishing rod on sims castaway DS?

I Need help i've the fishing rod in my iventory, but i don'y know how to fish with it Help plz! x

1. Well if it's anything like the PS2 version, you have to go into the tool menu and select it so that your sim is holding it first, then cast it into the ocean.
2. with the wii version you have to go to a spot where there are fishes and it automatically says use fishing rod if you are equipted with it.
