how to put line on a new fishing rod?

So i just got a new fishing rod today, and the reel is all set, I just have to put the line on the rod, can you tell me a really dumbed down way of how to, because i've never done it before. Thank-you. i appreciate the help with putting line on the reel itself, but i already have line on the reel, i just need to know what i'm doing as far as just putting it on the rod and how to stop string from unwinding after i have my desired amount of string?

  1. run the line through the loops in the rod backward. then tie the line onto the reel. then just wind the handle like your were realling in a fish. when you get enough line on the reel spool, cut it off and there ya have your line fixed. Got to make sure the line in pulled taught when you are reeling though or you will have loops in your line. You can put a pencil in the line (from the store) and hold it with your feet or if you have help, have someone hold it for you.
  2. run the line through the eyes of the rod ,open the reel, tie the line to the spool ,close the reel, have someone hold the line spool on a pencil and start cranking the reel until almost full good luck from Texas
  3. If the reel is already spooled with line and on the rod, you just need to open the bail (spinning reel) or spool so the line comes off freely, route the line through all of the guides and the rod tip, tie on you're bait of choice, and you're done. edit: just turn the handle to engage the reel (keep it from unwinding).
  4. there should be a peg that moves back and forth on the spool when you turn the handle of the reel. loop the end of the line around the spool and tie back to itself (like a loop with the spool in the middle) and then crank the handle will cause teh peg to catch the loop and cause the line to start rolling up on the spool until the desired amount of line is on the spool. or sometimes there is a little peg hope that helps.
  5. Ok to make it easier for you! Take your line and run it through the eyes of the pole. Tie a knot around the spool and cut the excess off to about a 1/4 inch after tied tight. Hold the line pretty tight and reel the line until it is about 1/8 from being completely full. Make sure it does not bunch up or tangle. After that, just cut the line at the end of your pole, tack on a lure or hook, make sure ur drag and everything is set, and have fun!
  6. Congratulations . First feed your line from the tip of rod through every eye till you get to your reel . If your reel does not have a hole to tie our line off on then just go around 2 times and tie then end off on the line coming in . Knot it about 3 times for good measure . Pull on the line so you know it is not going to come undone . Now have some one hold your line slightly tight and real it in your may have to tape it to the real first so it does not slip . ( it helps allot ) . Slowly real in your line and when you about and when you about full stop never have a full reel . That's that . Hope I have helped . Good luck and have fun .
