What type of fishing rod would you suggest?

I'm fairly new to saltwater fishing and I'm looking for a general good-quality rod/reel combo without having to break the piggy bank, a rod that would stand up to the abuse of a trout, snook, or redfish. I've heard Wright and McGill, Ugly Stik, St. Croix; the list goes on... someone help me out. The info would be much appreciated. Thanx!!! ^__^!!!

  1. Hi, I enjoy trout fishing and after borrowing my friend's Ugly Stick, I bought one of their combos for fairly cheap at Bi-mart. It is light weight, durable, and the only pole I have ever used where I can feel the second the trout touches the bait/lure. Before, I always missed strikes or had to wait until the fish swallowed the bait before I even knew it was checking out my bait. With the Ugly stick, I get a nice, clean hook right through the lip and can feel every strike. I love it! Hope that helps! Oh, if your fishing buddies will let you...borrow their poles and see which ones you like and don't...or even what qualities about the poles that you like/dislike. Then talk to the people at the store - they usually can point you in the right direction.
  2. Use the same equipment that you would for bass fishing and go with that. 7ft medium heavy bait casting rod and reel and go with a super line (fireline, spider wire) use at least 20 lb test and you'll handle most of what will be thrown at you.
  3. Id go with a 7 foot berkely lightning, go to 'fishermans factory outlet" online,,,,awesome deals on rods and reels
  4. Wright and McGill, and Quantum r my faves, but on I've never been able to get (to much money) is a penn, these babies last a long time, I've never had one but i have fished with them. put about 15 to 17 lb test suffix on a medium action spinning reel if you r fishing in shore, if it's off shore than i would go with a go with a Daiwa spinning, rod and reel combo (heavy action 25 to 35lb test suffix line) ```good catchin```
